RAL Quality Assurance Association (RAL Gütegemeinschaft) awards the first quality marks "Fire-tested pipe supports"

Within the scope of a fire test carried out by the Civil Engineering Materials Testing Institute MPA Braunschweig for building products, the managing chairman of the RAL Quality Assurance Association for pipe supports, Mr. Holger Miezner, presented the first quality marks according to the new regulation RAL-GZ 656.

The new RAL-GZ 656 "Fire-tested pipe supports"

The new regulation RAL-GZ 656 was developed togehter with major testing institutes and manufacturers. It's the first comprehensive evaluation model for the fire behaviour of pipe clamps, which is recognised independently of manufacturer, and spanning all test insitutes. It contains rules for carrying out and evaluating fire tests on pipe clamps. With the help of these regulations, it is now possible to determine the fire resistance curve and the load-deformation curve of a pipe clamp. Thus allowing a totally new quality of fire protection planning, which has never been available to planners up to now.

The quality mark "fire-tested pipe supports" can be awarded on application to products, which completely satisfy the high requirements expected of fire-tested pipe supports. This always involves a neutral, independant evaluation of the mechanical product characteristics according to RAL-GZ 655, as well as the carrying out and evaluation of fire tests according to RAL-GZ 656.

TCS 41 for Unrestricted Beam and Girder Connections

In many situations there is a bank of pipes or some electrical containment to be supported from a beam or girder structure. Usually in this application there is a 41mm strut channel to be assembled to the steel structure in order to fix the services with the required flexibility.

By fixing the strut channel with conventional beam clamps there is however an unwanted occupation of the channel's opening caused by the beam clamps. At those positions nothing can be attached to the 41 channel but in most cases this will only be noticed during the on-site installation.

The new Beam Clamp 41 allows for a direct connection of Sikla 41mm slotted strut channel without having this obstruction.

In order to achieve this, the foot of the Beam Clamp must be inserted into the slot on the back of the channel. It will then be twisted by 90 degrees and pushed against the beam's flange. During the tightening of the bolt, the sharpened tip of the bolt will dent the beam thus providing a high level of safety.

If the channel opening is supposed to be in beam direction, the Beam Clamp 41 can easily be fixed within the channel's opening as we know it from type TCS 1.
